Todays savings

I took my coupons to the store today and this is how it came out.............

The total cost of the groceries that I purchased       $330.48
My savings using coupons                                      $157.26
                                                                              _______
How much I spent today                                        $173.22

I spent much more than I had wanted or thought I would but I got some amazing deals.  I stocked up, really stocked up!  I needed old fashioned oats. Well, if I purchased 5, I only had to pay $1.40. So.....I bought 5. LOL, good thing we like oatmeal. Ha ha ha! Same with the Cinnamon Life, bought 5. ($1.00 a box!)
I only purchased things that we normally use, nothing else. I matched the coupons with what was on sale.
Even if I spent more than I normally do in a week for groceries,  I'm well stocked and wont have to buy lots of things for some time.
Let's look at it this way, I spent one hour sorting the coupons and 2 hours shopping the 2 different stores. That's a total of 3 hours. If I was working, I would have made  $52.00 an hour! OH YEA!!
I plan on getting better at this, I want a raise. :)

I would love to hear if you are using the coupon method and other ways to save on your groceries.
I will try to post local deals that I come across for my local friends on Wednesdays. That is when the new adds come out. I wont post everything, just the great deals. :)

Sneeky recipe

I just finished reading the book '20 and counting' but Jim Bob and Michelle Dugger. Great book, could not put it down! Anyway, the book as the Dugger families favorite recipes inside. :)
I can't wait to try them, the ice cream layer cake sounds so delish. The next recipe is Jim Bob's own. While Michelle was away from home, he was in charge of the kids. The kids were all 8 yrs and under at the time. He made Tuna and BBQ sandwiches. I know, your thinking EWW, so was I. One of his older daughters wrote that it is now one of the kids favorite meals. She said that you can't taste the tuna at all. I gather the kids are not fond of tuna. LOL, she also said that the more BBQ sauce you use, the better. ha ha ha. I'm going to try this without telling my family and see what happens.
Bi-Mart has tuna on sale right now for .99 cents a can. It's wonderful chunk albacore. YUM! I only buy this brand from Bi-Mart. It's also Dolphin safe and I was told that is does not have a high mercury level, like some albacore tuna brands.
Have a wonderful day. :D

It's a new year!

The first day of school is always the begining of a new year for me. I got this wonderful idea from my dear friend Betty. Most people make new years resolutions on New Years day of each year.
For me, the first day of a new school year works out great. Lazy summer days are over, it's time to get into a new routine. (or old one) I feel fresh and ready to get busy with organizing, menu planning and just gett'n things done.
Here are a couple of links for you to visit. Both are terrific!

Todays deals at Winco

I spent $63.93 at Winco today. This will be my grocery spending for the week on food. I still need to purchase dog food, T.P. and dish washer soap. I found Whole chickens for .88 cents a lbs, I bought a double pack and started cooking them right away. The package of two whole birds cost me $8.00. I will be able to get a few meals out of this:
Chicken and dumplings
chicken stir fry
chicken club ring (pampared chef recipe...yum)
Chicken pot pie
Chicken soup with the broth that I cooked the chickens in. I cooled, defatted and froze for later.
Now, we are not eating all these chicken meals this week, LOL. I froze the cooked chicken to use later.
I have so much to share but I'm so tired.
Please check back soon. :)

My new blog!

Hi,
I have started this blog for those of you who would like to read about my homemaking/Mom journey. Not only is it a challenge to feed and cloth my family with the cost of everything going up, but I think that homemaking has become a lost art.
It is in my heart to get back to basics and to teach my girls (son too) how to care for their future families and homes. Things are so different now then in the past, it makes me sad.
So, I hope that you will stop by my blog again soon to see what tips I have to share on being frugal, recipes, crafts and keeping of the house.
Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 are great motivators that have inspired me lately. :)
More to come!
